The Borsalino hat is an icon created by the stylish film noir. During Hollywood’s golden years, everyone wore a Borsalino. What few people know is that these hats were made in Alessandria, a provincial town in Northern Italy, in a factory headed by the same family for over 120 years. It all started with Giuseppe Borsalino who, after having obtained the title of «maître Chapelier» in Paris in 1857, opened the first hat workshop in Alessandria. In a noir movies style we will tell the story of a family, a community of workers and a town. BORSALINO CITY, the history of the most popular hat in the world.

This is the story of a silent yet powerful battle to recover chestnut woods and their legacy. In the mountains of Viola only the castagnere, old harvester women, remain. They recall a time of singing, dancing and falling in love around chestnut trees. Nowadays, the massive abandonment brought silence, while a precious heritage is fading. Ettore, a highway toll collector, undertakes a silent battle in order to change the Valley’s fate. His tool is the graft: through the act of grafting, humans give new sap to an existing tree. It is a powerful way to reconsider what already exists, and to discover new meaning. His son Sandro, along the years, filmed his obstacles and achievements. Around the grafts, Sandro goes through an intimate path, goes back to his roots and sustains Ettore in keeping the heritage alive. In this journey, we witness the graft of a community too. The village that seemed doomed is repopulated, holding a small community with a universal message for a greener world. Ettore addresses the future generations and the rising of a new community of young chestnut keepers around him. Through a neglected yet never forgotten tradition, chestnut woods threatened by abandonment come back to life defeating time.

Who was Carlo Mollino? In 2023, his fiftieth death anniversary will occur: in Italy, though, he is almost forgotten, while in the rest of the world his design pieces are sold for million of dollars. Has his genius been misunderstood or is he so clever to have fled any label? The answer will be given to the audience through a journey inside Mollino’s architectures and places. He will unveil himself through his passions and obsessions. Archive materials will show the originality of his work and his architectures will be seen through modern day lenses. His true-self will be searched, scattered inside his personal mail, in the words of those who knew and loved him. The tone will be intimate, the director will explore Mollino’s work, as the Dancing Le Roy, his mountain buildings in the Alps and his absolute masterpiece The Teatro Regio, Turin’s Opera House, also celebrating his fiftieth anniversary in 2023. Enrica Viola will follow Mollino steps in an evocative Agnès Varda-inspired documentary, and at the end her personal portrait of Carlo Mollino will be given to the audience.

Innesti at Visioni dal Mondo Festival!

Innesti has been officially selected for the feature length Italian Competition at the Milan-based Festival Visioni dal Mondo, and will be presented at theTeatro Litta (MI), on 17 September h 17.35

The story of a quiet yet powerful battle to recover secular chestnut groves and their tradition, in Viola Castello. In the Piedmont hamlet, only the old, former chestnut harvester– the Castagnere– are left. Their memory recalls a past when life was centered around chestnut trees, an Heritage now almost completely faded away. Ettore, filmato by his son Sandro, changes the fate of this Valley through the graft: he gives existing plants new sap, bringing back to life a story that seemed doomed. The graft is also human: the Valley is slowly repopulated, a new future for new generations. Through a never-forgotten tradition, graft brings Viola Castello and his chestnut groves back to life.
